On My Stereo XI: Cult bands

Broadcast and the Focus Group - Broadcast and The Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age

I saw them just before Christmas, and it was simply the most insane show I have ever been to. I melted and merged with the room and the sounds. It was overwhelming. I looked at the friend I was with, sitting there wide-eyed. "Oh man! Oh man! Oh man! That was SO... Oh man!" he said after the show. "I can't believe it. I just can't believe it. Oh man!"

I've enjoyed their previous records, but this one is outrageous. Another friend recently said, "It's weird that more people aren't talking about it."

Amon Duul - Phallus Dei

New Year's Eve at a friend's place, he puts this on and I know immediately, YES -this is it. This sound. This is the musical ancestry I choose. "Nobody listens to the Germans," says my friend, laughing.

What's on yours?

Bat for Lashes - Two Suns

Atlas Sound - Logos

Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

XX - The Xx

I've only recently discovered the riches of Pitchfork media, which is probably pretty shameful. I'm starting to understand the value of 'lists.'

Two Suns!!! Let me add a few more exclamation marks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pitchfork!

Lists: Yeah! Forget the order, or the idea of a canon or anything, it's just nice to get turned on to stuff you've never encountered before. Turned on by people who might know something.

Yes, exactly - people who might know something.
