I think it was in June of 2001 that I first heard Ryan Adams'
Heartbreaker. I remember thinking, "Oh. So
this is country music."
And that was the beginning.
So it's an 8 year anniversary since I connected to that part of my soul.

Talking with Dave on the phone about how country music is going out of fashion. And that'll be nice in some ways.
Country is a music of hard times and outsiders. Prosperity never seemed to fit it.

I remember hearing that album too, it didn't make sense to me until I was doing a manual labor job. For some reason beer and country music became interesting and important.
Also, I think you mean 8 year anniversary, sorry.
My math skills...
i am deeply indebted to my brother for introducing me to ryan adams. wish i could remember the date because it would be an anniversary worth celebrating.
At the end of a crappy shift at the music store, As I am making a line for the back room door to leave, a customer (of course) asks me if I can help her. I begrudgingly stop and help:
she says "Well,I'm looking for a singer named 'Ryan Adams' - not Bryan Adams"
I say, (in my head) "thank god thank god I love this woman"
I say (out loud) " He's right over here under "A"
She say's: "I just heard "Gold" for the first time and I loved it. I didnt know there was more. Has he been around for a while?
"OH YEAH, theres more. Its all great" - I hand her a fistful of albums
....
I was a bit late leaving. It was probably minus 40 outside. She took heartbreaker home with her. I made it home just fine.
I still associate 'Heartbreaker' with the dry heat of that Saskatchewan summer. It's hard to imagine it being heard first in the dry cold of a bitter Calgary winter.
I think I may never work selling movies or music, and for that I am almost a little bit sorry.
