5, 10, 15, 20

I read an article on pitchforkmedia.com where this guy picked one song for every five years of his life (so, at 5 years old, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30,35, ...etc.) and told you a little about them. I don't know if they were his favourites at the time, or if they were his favourite songs now which he had discovered then. Regardless, it was a really interesting list.

This weird, over-the-top song, Cocaine Sex, was from that list:

Anyone care to offer a list of their own?

Also, I should've warned you -the audio (not video) was/is sexually explicit.

You asked for lists, so here are two lists for you, being the songs I liked when I was that age, and the songs which I like now which were released when I was that age. I've tried not to do huge write-ups about them, but I did link to two...

Favorite When I Was:
5: Michael Jackson - Thriller
I enjoyed the music, but more than that I was a huge fan of hearing Vincent Price at the end.

10: Harold Faltermeyer - Axel F
I was a young-un when I watched Beverly Hills Cop for the first time. It was a couple of years later I discovered my dad's soundtrack tape of it, and that was that.

15: Ennio Morricone - Investigation Of A Citizen Above Suspicion
The first time I "knowingly" encountered my favorite composer was with one of his best songs. Joel and I scripted a wonderful little wordless drama to this song, which we would act out in his car. We lost contact with the real song for many years, and I finally found it again, on wonderful YouTube:

20: Metallica - Turn The Page
I recall hearing their version, then Bob Seger's version, and for a rare time in my life having trouble making a choice which version I liked more. As I am fan of Metallica's sound, I chose theirs.

25: Breaking Benjamin - So Cold / Matthew Wilkinson - Great Siege Of North Atlantic
Two songs, because the former was my favorite around the start of my 25th year, and the latter right near the end of it. Of the songs in this list, the only one I really listen to any more is yours, Matthew. I have it on several CDs in my car, and on my laptop and phone. Probably my favorite of your songs. (Oh yeah, and when do we get a teaser of your new musical endeavors?)

Released When I Was:
5: Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal
Great song. Apparently when I was five, I was just on the wrong album.

10: Tori Amos - Precious Things
Tori Amos is for me what I imagine you guys see in Bjork. I love her work, and her beautiful piano style is really great in this song.

15: Alanis Morisette - Uninvited
The first time I heard this song I was so impressed, but I also kept laughing to myself and thinking, "What the hell is a 'Stoic Squirrel?'" I imagined this little squirrel, holding an acorn, but not eating it because, well, it didn't really matter...

20: Frou Frou - Let Go
I love that I heard this song because of Zach Braff. I hate that once he used it in his movie, everyone at my college started listening to it, and killed it for me, and then walked around pretending they were all about Imogen Heap... it made me angry, but I just waited until the next "fad-album" was introduced, and once they were all happily bragging that they were huge fans of U2 and f*cking "Walk On" was all over the campus, I added "Let Go" back into my playlists once more.

25: Breakdown - Seether
I'm still listening to this song almost every day. I was struck with confusion when I started listening to Seether only two months ago, and found out they've been around for a long while. Since I really enjoy most music of the alternate rock genre, I don't understand how I didn't get into Seether's music earlier.

Oh yes, and I think you should have a turn to be given a great YouTube video to check out. Here's Tom Waits explaining his tour schedule... I laughed throughout the whole thing:
