Old Crushes

Teresa Wright in Shadow of a Doubt.
For me Shadow of a Doubt is to Alfred Hitchcock what Mirror is to Andrei Tarkovsky: the key to the puzzle of his filmography.








Joan Fontaine in Suspicion.

I watched Ms. Fontaine recently in Max Ophul's strange (and hard to track down for less than a hundred dollars) 1948 melodrama Letter from an Unknown Woman. I'd been wanting to see it for a while. I've run across people who think it's one of the greatest films ever made. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
